ZONG Xiao-chen 宗孝忱

ZONG Xiao-chen was born in Rugao, Jiangsu, China. As a calligrapher skilled in various scripts, he was especially renowned for his mastery of Small Seal Script. His seal script was based primarily on Qin dynasty models, drawing inspiration from the Mount Tai Inscriptions and Mount Yi Stone Carvings. Critics have praised his style as “graceful and fluid in brushwork, even and refined in line, rounded, elegant, and resilient.” After relocating to Taiwan, he taught at the National Taiwan Normal University and National Taiwan University.
